About Ahlquist

Development

For the Ahlquists, their team members have made all the difference. “As we reflect on the projects, it’s the people that stand out,” says Tommy. “We have built a group of driven and tenacious partners at Ahlquist who defy the odds, work their tails off, and share the passion we have for our community. Our team members have become like family, and we love what we do together.”

It’s no secret that the Ahlquists’ hard work and determination have paid off over the years. With more than 3.5 million square feet developed and a total value north of 1.6 billion, Ahlquist Development has shattered expectations. Notable projects include Eagle View Landing, home of Idaho’s first TopGolf, Ten Mile Crossing, Pioneer Crossing, Eighth and Main, City Center Plaza and dozens of other sites and buildings.

“I’m often asked what my most memorable project or building is,” says Tommy. “My immediate answer is always this: the next one. The joy is in the process! We create places for people to work and spaces for families to live and play. What’s most rewarding is creating, building and delivering new areas for our community to thrive.”

Today Ahlquist Development is a full-service development firm ready to meet clients where they are in the building process. From the first call and handshake, their goal is to provide expertise and professional services from the initial vision through move-in.

our core values:

Origins of Ahlquist Development

Ahlquist Development began in 2004 as a side hustle while Tommy Ahlquist was working as a full-time ER doctor. Thanks to his entrepreneurial spirit, Tommy has always had an interest in bringing new development to the growing Treasure Valley.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Ahlquist Development’s origin story is deeply rooted in relationships. “Truly understanding the needs of partners and clients has driven our passion and success from day one,” says CEO Tommy Ahlquist. Early small-scale success further ignited Tommy’s dream of growing a development company with his father, Tom Sr., who had been working for over 20 years at Boyer, a commercial development company in Salt Lake City.

Firm believers in the idea that heritage is built on the shoulders of those who come before, Tommy and Tom Sr. attribute their work ethic to generations of blue-collar examples. Before joining Boyer, Tom Sr. worked for 20 years at Kennecott Copper mine, like his father and grandfather before him.

“Mottos can resonate deep in the DNA of a person or company,” says Tom Ahlquist, Sr. “For the Ahlquists, that has always rung true, and our motto has always been, ‘Be authentic, take care of others and work harder than you thought possible.’”

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
After an early phone call between father and son, the dream of starting a business together began. Tom Sr. quit his job at Boyer and moved to Boise. The duo started working together in a one-room office in a project Tommy developed off Eagle Road, setting up a single card table and chairs from Walmart in the middle of the room.

For the next two decades, work and grit defined the company. These characteristics helped see them through years of successes and challenges, including the “Great Recession” of ‘08, countless landmark projects and the opportunity to work with amazing partners.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years,” says Tommy. “So many projects and buildings dot the map. Each project is a symbol of relentless work and collaboration. As I pause to reflect, I am overwhelmed with gratitude to the many partners and our team who have made our vision a reality again and again.”
